Both Bill Burr, a comedian from Boston, and an amazing meal of lobster mac ‘n’ cheese were found in Newport, Rhode Island on Sunday, July 15th. Burr did his newest stand-up routine at the Newport Yachting Center to celebrate their Summer Comedy Series. Both were very good, but only one made me laugh.
The giant bowl of lobster mac ‘n’ cheese from Newport’s Brick Alley Pub & Restaurant was as serious as they come. With over a dozen huge chunks of lobster in it, I was totally impressed. We’re talking claw and tail meat here, folks. In fact, neither Todd nor I could finish the meal which came with salad bar and soup.

You see, Brick Alley was one of those four-star places we found on Yelp. The reviews for this place were outstanding and many people raved about the mac ‘n’ cheese. So, of course, we had to try it for ourselves. We also ordered the ahi tuna sliders. This dish was made with several slices of seared “RARE” ahi tuna with a pepper-herb crust and wasabi cream sauce served on a crispy wonton with sides of soy sauce, pickled ginger, and more wasabi. The meal, the decor, and the service were excellent. Having the opportunity to eat here was a bonus to the night of comedy we had planned.
After dinner, we walked to the Newport Yachting Center to catch the main course of the evening, Bill Burr. Burr is known for his dry, tasteless sense of humor. He often offends more than amuses, but at this show he was amusing. One of the biggest points he made throughout the night was that he was doing his stand-up routine in a tent. The tent was enormous, easily holding over 2,000 people, but it was still a tent.

The venue was great, despite the muggy weather and little-to-no protection from the heat. By sundown, Burr had us all laughing and the air had finally cooled down enough to give relief. I only wish we’d had time to see the town before the show.
